Global Polarization Effect and Spin-Orbit Coupling in Strong Interaction

چکیده

In non-central high energy heavy ion collisions the colliding system posses a huge orbital angular momentum in direction opposite to normal of reaction plane. Due spin-orbit coupling strong interaction, such leads polarization quarks and anti-quarks same direction. This effect, known as global has been recently observed by STAR Collaboration at RHIC that confirms theoretical prediction made more than ten years ago. The discovery attracted much attention on study spin effects collision. It opens new window properties QGP physics -- Spin Physics Heavy Ion Collisions. this chapter, we review original ideas calculations lead predictions. We emphasize role played discuss opportunities challenges connection.

Spin injection into a superconductor with strong spin-orbit coupling.

We demonstrate spin injection into superconducting Nb by employing a spin absorption technique in lateral spin valve structures. Spin currents flowing in a nonmagnetic Cu channel are preferably absorbed into Nb due to its strong spin-orbit interaction, the amount of which dramatically changes below or above the superconducting critical temperature (TC). The charge imbalance effect observed in t...

2D superconductivity with strong spin-orbit interaction

We consider superconductivity confined at a two-dimensional interface with a strong surface spin-orbit (Rashba) interaction. Some peculiar properties of this system are investigated. In particular, we show that an in-plane Zeeman field can induce a supercurrent flow. PACS numbers: 74.20.-z, 74.25.-q, 74.20.Rp, 73.20.-r Most superconductors have their underlying crystal structures and the normal...

Slater Insulator in Iridate Perovskites with Strong Spin-Orbit Coupling.

The perovskite SrIrO_{3} is an exotic narrow-band metal owing to a confluence of the strengths of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and the electron-electron correlations. It has been proposed that topological and magnetic insulating phases can be achieved by tuning the SOC, Hubbard interactions, and/or lattice symmetry. Here, we report that the substitution of nonmagnetic, isovalent Sn^{4+} for Ir...

Fermi nesting between atomic wires with strong spin-orbit coupling.

The mutual interplay between superlattice structures, band filling factors, and spin-orbit coupling results in a highly correlated electronic spin and charge state found for an array of atomic Pb wires grown on Si(557). By means of spin- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, the spin texture close to the Fermi surface was found to be alternating and equidistant; thus, Fermi nesting occ...

Ultrathin two-dimensional superconductivity with strong spin-orbit coupling.

We report on a study of epitaxially grown ultrathin Pb films that are only a few atoms thick and have parallel critical magnetic fields much higher than the expected limit set by the interaction of electron spins with a magnetic field, that is, the Clogston-Chandrasekhar limit. The epitaxial thin films are classified as dirty-limit superconductors because their mean-free paths, which are limite...
